Overview

The AIU offers a wide variety of graduate-level credit courses to educators during three academic terms (fall, spring, and summer) throughout the year.

CPE course credits can be used to fulfill the requirements for obtaining Level II Certification, Act 48, and Master's Equivalency. Each three-credit CPE course counts as 90 Act 48 credits.

Q. I don't live in Allegheny County. Am I allowed to enroll in AIU CPE courses?
A. Yes, educators across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are welcome to enroll in AIU CPE courses for the same cost as those who live in Allegheny County.

Most 3-credit CPE courses are $399. In the course catalog, click the course listing to view the exact cost in a box as shown below.

Q. How many graduate credits will I earn per CPE course?
A.
Each AIU CPE course simultaneously counts as:

  • 3 credits toward the 24 Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE)-approved credits required to be earned within the first six years of teaching as part of the Level II Certification process
  • 90 Act 48 hours toward the 180 hours required to be earned every five years
  • Additionally, up to 18 AIU CPE credits (six three-credit courses) can be applied toward a Master's Equivalency Certification

Need Transcripts?

Official transcripts contain a complete record of all CPE courses completed through Allegheny Intermediate Unit. Official e-transcripts can be electronically submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Education upon request and payment of a $10 processing and handling fee.
